The UCPath Center is the University of California's shared services center in Riverside, CA. The UCPath Center manages the payroll, benefits, and other human resources transactions for more than 200,000 UC employees working across ten UC campuses, six medical centers, three national labs and more. Position Summary :

The Product Management Intern role will support the UCPath Product Management team in executing strategic initiatives that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of UCPath's systems and processes. This role offers hands-on experience in product management, driving the development and enhancement of our products, within a large-scale HR/Payroll shared services environment.

The intern will focus on special projects that include reviewing and maintaining product JIRA tickets, developing a structured project intake process, and documenting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support the team's ongoing initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:



Product & Process Support

  • Assist in reviewing, organizing, and maintaining JIRA, ensuring existing tickets are accurately logged, properly categorized, and updated to reflect current priorities.
  • Support the development and implementation of a structured project intake process to streamline how enhancement requests and roadmap initiatives are submitted, reviewed, and approved.
  • Document and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for product management processes, ensuring clear guidelines for team members and stakeholders.


Research & Analysis

  • Analyze existing product management workflows and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency.
  • Conduct benchmarking and research on best practices in product management, JIRA usage, and PeopleSoft
  • Gather feedback from stakeholders (internal UCPath teams) to identify pain points within current processes that can be improved with existing products


Collaboration & Communication

  • Work cross-functionally with product/project managers, IT teams, and business stakeholders to support initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing presentations, reports, and documentation for leadership and stakeholders.
  • Participate in team meetings and share insights or recommendations based on research and project findings.


Experience & Skills:


Required:

  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to write clear and concise emails
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to communicate technical information to personnel at various levels in the organization
  • Interest in project management and product development processes.
  • Ability to collaborate with different teams and stakeholders effectively.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable as priorities evolve

Preferred :

  • Familiarity with JIRA or similar project management tools.
  • Knowledge of business processes and product development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).




Education:


Required

  • Currently enrolled University of California student
  • Bachelor's degree or undergraduate degree in progress with expected graduation in Spring or Summer 2025
  • Pursuing a degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.

Internships available for currently enrolled University of California students only. Non-UC students will not be considered.

This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at the UCPath Center in Riverside and remote in California.
