Job Description

PART TIME Accountant Location Bridgeport, CT : Lakeview Cemetery Association is looking to fill an important need for an experienced Part-time Staff Accountant in our Bridgeport location. We expect the position to work about 18-20 hours per week over three days. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Part-time Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization's assets, liabilities, accounts payable, profit and loss, and other related financial activities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for timely and accurate preparation of financial reporting in a variety of areas. It is essential that this candidate brings analytical and exceptional organizational skills to the team. In addition, the Staff Accountant will partner with the Executive Director to manage the human resources and administration functions for the organization. Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Performs general accounting and other related duties for the organization.
  • Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Maintains the general ledger and accounts payable.
  • Assist with creating the annual budget process.
  • Performs monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
  • Reconciles bank accounts monthly and cash applications.
  • Reconciles cash, AP and fixed assets.
  • Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate GL accounts.
  • Supports outside auditors; gathers necessary information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems.
  • Assists with creation of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Maintain fixed assets and capital expenses.
  • Creates PowerPoint presentations for board meetings and other organizational needs.
  • Organizes and maintains human resources and personnel files, using ADP.
  • Assists with benefit management, including retirement plans.
  • Policy creation - accounting, HR, employee handbooks, and spending.
  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Excellent facilitation and collaboration skills while demonstrating the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Completes special accounting projects using Excel and QuickBooks.
  • General support to the office, as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience.
  • High level knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and MS365.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong administrative experience.
  • Ability to multi-task and self-motivated to learn new technology.
  • QuickBooks - high level knowledge of platform.
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to GAAP.
  • Microsoft Office Suite - strong knowledge.
  • Strong overall computer skills.
  • Human Resources experience - proficient.
  • ADP or other payroll experience desired.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, or related - required.
Schedule:
  • 2-3 three days per week. About 15 - 18 hours per week.
  • Ability to commute to the Bridgeport office - 885 Boston Avenue.
Experience:
  • GAAP: 5 years (Required).
  • QuickBooks - demonstratable knowledge of the following modules: GL, AP, Banking, Reporting.
  • MS Office 365 - Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint - strong knowledge.
  • ADP payroll experience desired, not required.
  • Human Resources - base knowledge required.
  • General office and administrative duties.
Work Location: In person, at 885 Boston Avenue, Bridgeport - not remote or hybrid.
