Purchasing Manager - Publishing & Manufacturing
(Remote, Hybrid in Naperville or NYC, or Remote in Select States)

Are you a strategic and detail-oriented leader with a passion for books and manufacturing? We're looking for an experienced Purchasing Manager to oversee purchasing and printing operations for our growing children's and specialty publishing lines. This leadership role requires balancing creative vision with production logistics, ensuring quality, efficiency, and innovation across our manufacturing processes.

Location & Work Arrangement:

Hybrid options: Naperville, IL, or NYC.
Fully remote available in: AZ, CT, LA, MA, MD, MN, NJ, NY, NV, OR, PA, TN, TX, WA, and WI.
Occasional travel required for press checks, vendor meetings, and team collaborations.

Salary Range:

$80,000 - $100,000 (based on experience)

What You'll Do:

Oversee all purchasing and printing operations for children's and specialty publishing lines.
Balance creative and logistical needs while managing production schedules and vendor relationships.
Lead and mentor a team of print buyers, fostering a culture of growth and excellence.
Develop strategies to enhance efficiency, quality, and speed to market.
Stay ahead of industry trends, integrating new printing technologies and best practices.
Troubleshoot supply chain challenges, ensuring minimal disruptions to production timelines.
Collaborate cross-functionally with editorial, design, sales, marketing, and fulfillment teams.
Be flexible to work overtime when needed to meet tight deadlines.
Travel occasionally for printer site visits, press checks, and external partner meetings.

What We're Looking For:

Deep knowledge of printing processes, manufacturing, and supply chain operations.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Creative problem-solving and process improvement mindset.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Basecamp, Filemaker).
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, ever-evolving industry.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and decision-making abilities.

Your Background:

10+ years of experience in publishing, with a focus on production and manufacturing.
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Proven track record of managing teams and scaling operations.
Experience balancing creative and logistical aspects of book production.
Strong history of developing processes and workflows to support growth.
