The South Elgin Police Department is currently establishing a Police Officer hiring list! All candidates must take the FrontLine National exam through National Testing Network by WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2025, 5:00 p.m. CST

Department Overview: The South Elgin Police Department has 35 sworn officers. The department moved into the new police facility 50 S. Water Street, South Elgin, IL, in December, 2024. The department participates in several regional teams, including, Kane County SWAT, Kane County Major Crimes Task Force, Kane County Accident Reconstructionist Team, and ILEAS -Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System Mobile Field Force. The department also has opportunities within the department, such as School Resource Officers, Detectives, Community Relations, Evidence Technicians, and Field Training Officers.

Meet the age requirements set forth in the Illinois State Statute 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6 (upon appointment of employment be 21 years of age or order and have not reached their 35th birthday, unless they meet the exemptions under the statute).

Possess a valid Illinois Driver's License

Must be able to meet vision standard at time of appointment. Must be correctable to 20/20 with both eyes open including field of vision/depth perception/color vision within normal ranges.

Upon Successful Passage of Written and Oral testing procedures, before Final Eligibility Register compiled, preference points may be claimed based on:
Any person who is entitled to military preference and whose name appears on the Initial Eligibility Register shall, upon request, be awarded five (5) preference points in accordance with state law 65ILCS 5/10-2.1-9(b). (Individual must have served a minimum of one full year of active duty).
Any person who has been awarded an associate's degree in fire science, emergency medical service, law enforcement or criminal justice or who has been awarded a bachelor's degree in any academic discipline from an accredited college or university whose name appears on the Initial Eligibility Register shall, upon request, be awarded five (5) preference points.
Any person who has successfully completed the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Course as established under the Illinois Police Training Act whose name appears on the Initial Eligibility Register shall, upon request, be awarded five (5) preference points. (Available to applicants who are currently serving, within the State of Illinois, as law enforcement officers on a full or part-time basis and has certificate attesting to successful completion).
Certification will be required; i.e., DD-214; original college transcript; State of Illinois Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Course.
