Located in the Coast neighborhood of Cambridge, between Central Square and Memorial Drive, the Cambridge Community Center has been serving the community for 96 years. Today our mission is to promote community cooperation and unity and empower youth, individuals, and families. We do this by offering social, cultural, educational, and recreational activities.

Our youth programs run 50 weeks of the year and have a focus on supporting the social-emotional growth and development of the children we serve . We place a great deal of emphasis on family engagement in order to best serve our youth.

Position: We are seeking an individual with strong relationship building skills who is self-motivated and enthusiastic about youth work to serve as a Lead Teacher in our Summer Program. The ideal candidate has an understanding of social-emotional development and appreciation of diverse backgrounds and various developmental needs of children. This person should also demonstrate a high level of empathy in their interactions with others, as well as a commitment to equity* in their personal and professional lives.

Reports To: Director of Out-of-School Time (OST) Programs; Director of Youth and Family Services

Pay: $20/hour (Commensurate with experience.)

Position: Lead Teacher, Cowemoki Summer Enrichment Program

Hours: Full Time, Monday, June 30th– Friday, August 22nd,8:00AM – 5:00PM, Monday – Friday.

Summer Orientation (Mandatory): Wednesday, June 25th – Friday, June 27th (8AM-4PM)

Job Overview: Our Lead Teachers are motivated, reliable individuals who engage with our children on a personal level and who care deeply about our community. Lead Teachers build strong and positive relationships with children while keeping them safe. This position will plan and lead structured enrichment activities, supervise children, and act as role models for children. Lead Teachers build relationships with parents in order to best serve the youth.

Job Expectations: Lead Teachers will work effectively with youth, including planning activities for a smooth day, engaging with children and families and will attend weekly professional development meetings.

Specific Duties:

  • Plan classroom, gym time,computer lab, and swimming
  • Strong organizational skills in and out of the classroom
  • Record-Keeping of classroom attendance daily. (Mandatory)
  • Work with other Lead Teachers to plan, share ideas, resources, etc.
  • Manage classroom space: post schedules, display children's work, organize games, gather materials, etc.
  • Work to keep children physically and emotionally safe
  • Encourage children to participate and do their best
  • Lead daily enrichment activities (Connect With Art Teacher)
  • Prepare agenda and make it visible every day to both students and parents
  • Attend all actively engage staff meetings every week
  • Plan and coordinate arrangements for Friday field trips.
  • At times, Lead Teachers will be required to perform additional duties related to the program and the administration of the Center
  • Weekly parent newsletter notices and phone calls (First Week Introduction)
  • Perform written injury/ incident reports of each child when necessary

Family Engagement:

  • Build strong relationships with parents of children you directly work with
  • At CCC, we don’t just enroll children, we enroll families
  • Attend parent meetings virtually if possible
  • Make bi-weekly phone calls to update parents of the children you directly work with
  • Promptly communicate with parents regarding any injury/incident reports
  • Be sympathetic and responsive to any concerns that a parent raise

COVID Protocols:

  • All Lead Teachers are encouraged to wear a mask
  • Wipe down tables and chairs daily
  • Practice social distance
  • Assigned seating every day
  • Identify activities that can be done under EEC guidelines
  • Practice hand hygiene consistently
  • Children are encouraged to wear face masks during the program day (If needed)
  • Air Purifiers must be on

Regulated Qualifications:

Meet following requirements

1. Have a Highschool diploma.

2. Have at least 6 months of half-time experience with school-age children.
