We are a seeking a strategic minded  Director of Public Relations  to lead our Clio Award-winning team in servicing clients in the cannabis, wellness, CPG, and consumer brand industries. 

 

Specific Responsibilities 

  • Working in conjunction with the CEO, manage and execute all public relations and thought leadership client initiatives including elevated tactics such as PR stunts, trend reports, and partnerships 
  • Supervise and advise on PR and Integrated Accounts, providing strategic direction for account team execution including reviewing strategies and pitches, proposing new ways of thinking, troubleshooting, and providing council on crisis management
    • Participate in client status meetings efficiently to provide strategic direction to clients and account teams
    • Work with account teams to ensure long-standing and impactful relationships with clients
    • Effectively balance dual expectations of clients and the agency ensuring the strength and health of accounts and the team  
  • Maintain high levels of team effectiveness (trust, communication, collaboration, productivity, and engagement) by fostering a supportive environment that acknowledges and balances workloads for teams and accounts, working together to reduce burnout
  • Lead and focus team on achievement of goals and accountability for all client-retention efforts
  • Provide account oversight and directly manage 1-3 marquee accounts
    • Responsible for account workflow and monitoring of assigned account program goals through working with Account Leads to communicate priorities on a daily and weekly basis
    • Provide mentorship and coaching to Account Leads in quality initiatives and accountability
    • Actively listen and address challenges and successes in meeting goals, and reevaluate and recommend rescoping as necessary as well as manage renewals and upsells
  • Serve as day-to-day manager and mentor to Account Executives, guiding and approving strategies, proactive pitches, news releases and other media and client-facing communication
  • Own accountability for special projects such as group pitches
  • Aid in onboarding new team members, ensuring internal systems and processes are communicated, understood and followed
  • Monitor news cycles for ideating newsworthy story ideas and pitch angles for clients 
  • Oversee the development of strategic partnerships and/or thought leadership program such as speaking engagements, award submissions and targeted op-ed placements; collaborate with account teams to ideate partnerships for specific clients
  • Serve as point of contact when CEO is out of office


Qualifications
  • Ten (10) + years of progressively responsible experience, including three (3) + years leading a team; in an agency environment is highly desired
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the lifestyle, wellness and consumer packaged goods industry sectors is highly desired
  • Strong knowledge of the PR field including experience in client communications, media relations, press campaign development, crisis management and execution of creative, strategic, and thoughtful communications plans
  • Deep understanding of the media landscape including changes and challenges
  • Exceptional storytelling abilities, with an understanding of how to craft compelling messages that resonate with target audiences
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data and market trends to develop effective communication strategies
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Leadership and team management abilities, with the capacity to guide and motivate a team of public relations professionals
  • Digitally savvy, self-starter and results-oriented 
  • Clear communicator with an entrepreneurial mindset 
  • Problem solver with the ability to think and act quickly and efficiently 
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to collaborate with team members, clients and vendors

Compensation and Benefits

This position's pay range starts at $120,000/year and scales based on experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.  Additionally benefits detailed below:

Location
If you are based in the Denver area, this is a hybrid office-WFH role with at least one day in the office. Otherwise, this is a WFH role with in-market trips to visit clients and to work in our Denver headquarters as needed.
