Are you passionate about coding, robotics, and inspiring the next generation of aerospace leaders? Join us as a Coding & Robotics Instructor at the Space Adventure Camp, located at the NASA Wallops Flight Facility. This exciting opportunity blends hands-on learning with space exploration, helping campers aged 11-16 engage with cutting-edge technology while exploring real-world applications in aerospace.

About the Role
As a Coding & Robotics Instructor, you will lead campers through immersive learning experiences in coding, robotics, and automation. You'll design and implement innovative lessons, work with robotics kits Spike Prime and Arduino, and guide students through exciting challenges and competitions. You'll help ignite curiosity, foster creativity, and introduce students to potential careers in the aerospace industry. This is more than a teaching position—it's an opportunity to build your resume, connect with industry professionals, and have a lasting impact on young minds.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Development and Instruction

Design engaging lesson plans and projects focused on coding, robotics, and automation for various age groups (11-16 years old).
Integrate space exploration themes, real-world examples from NASA and related agencies, and cutting-edge technology into your lessons.
Collaborate with other instructors to create interdisciplinary projects, combining coding, robotics, science, and engineering concepts.
Stay current with emerging trends in coding and robotics education, ensuring a dynamic and engaging camp experience.

Teaching and Facilitation

Deliver interactive lessons and workshops that inspire curiosity and promote critical thinking.
Guide campers through hands-on projects, such as programming robots and solving real-world challenges using LEGO Mindstorms, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi.
Organize and lead robotics competitions where campers can showcase their skills.
Offer personalized support and feedback, helping students refine their robotic designs and coding projects.
Foster an inclusive, collaborative learning environment where campers work together and support each other.

Mentorship and Career Exploration

Serve as a mentor to campers, sharing your expertise and passion for coding, robotics, and technology.
Facilitate connections with industry professionals and introduce campers to opportunities in tech, aerospace, and STEM careers.

Camp Operations and Management

Work closely with camp directors to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, including securing time for instruction and activities.
Help maintain a positive, supportive environment for both campers and staff.
Participate in weekly crew meetings and adapt the curriculum as needed to meet camper needs.

Safety and Well-Being

Ensure a safe learning environment by following camp safety protocols and assisting with emergency procedures.
Be vigilant in monitoring camper health and well-being, and support the camp team in managing behavior.

Community Engagement

Be a positive role model for campers and staff, maintaining a professional and approachable demeanor.
Build relationships with community partners, including NASA, NOAA, and other aerospace organizations.
Materials and Resource Management

Oversee the procurement and organization of materials and supplies needed for coding and robotics activities.
Assist in the management of equipment and resources throughout the camp.

Required Qualifications

Currently pursuing or completed a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, Scratch, or similar.
Experience teaching or mentoring youth in coding, robotics, or STEM education settings.
Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and effectively.
Organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Ability to work in an outdoor environment under varying weather conditions.
Must be a U.S. Citizen and pass a NASA background check.
Must have a valid driver's license and be able to pass a drug and alcohol screening.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, and engage with hands-on activities.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and handle physical tasks as needed.
Strong ability to communicate clearly, both in person and via remote platforms.

This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of a transformative summer camp that inspires the next generation of scientists, engineers, and tech leaders. If you're ready to make a lasting impact and explore the intersection of space exploration and technology education, we'd love to hear from you!
