Job Summary: The Carrier Sales role within the Brokerage Division is a dynamic and essential position responsible for managing and overseeing all carrier-related activities throughout the entire lifecycle of an order. This individual will be responsible for vetting and negotiating with carriers, ensuring compliance, and addressing any order complications related to carrier performance. The Carrier Sales representative will be the primary point of contact for all carrier-related tasks, ensuring smooth communication and successful execution of orders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Carrier Vetting & Negotiation:
- Vet and onboard new carriers by conducting background checks, verifying credentials, and assessing compliance with company standards and industry regulations.
- Negotiate rates, terms, and conditions with carriers to secure competitive pricing while maintaining strong business relationships.
- Ensure that all carrier agreements are up-to-date and meet the company’s operational and financial objectives.
Carrier Compliance & Management:
- Monitor and enforce carrier compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies (e.g., insurance, licensing, safety standards).
- Conduct regular audits to ensure that carriers meet performance standards and resolve any discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate and updated carrier profiles in the company’s system.
Order Management & Resolution:
- Oversee the carrier-related lifecycle of an order from booking through delivery, ensuring timely execution and clear communication.
- Act as the second point of contact for addressing and resolving any order complications, delays, or issues with carriers, escalating as necessary.
- Collaborate with internal teams and clients to ensure timely resolution of issues, minimizing operational disruptions.
Carrier Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
- Track carrier performance metrics, including on-time deliveries, claims history, and customer satisfaction.
- Provide regular reports to management on carrier performance and operational challenges.
- Develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement in carrier relationships and performance.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for carriers, providing consistent communication and support throughout the order process.
- Collaborate with the sales and operations teams to optimize carrier selection and ensure smooth execution of customer orders.
- Maintain positive relationships with carriers, clients, and internal stakeholders, ensuring mutual satisfaction and long-term partnerships.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong Negotiation Skills: Ability to negotiate competitive rates and terms with carriers while maintaining strong business relationships.
- Carrier Management Expertise: Experience in carrier vetting, compliance monitoring, and performance management.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to handle and resolve order complications or issues in a timely manner, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities to liaise effectively with internal teams, carriers, and clients.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to ensure that all carrier-related documents, agreements, and performance records are accurately maintained.
- Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Customer-Centric: A proactive approach to addressing client needs and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze data and performance metrics to make informed decisions about carrier selection and process improvements.
Required Education and Experience:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field (preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in carrier sales, logistics, or brokerage operations.
- Experience with carrier compliance, vetting processes, and managing carrier relationships is required.
- Previous experience in the transportation or freight brokerage industry is highly preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Experience with transportation management systems (TMS) or similar software is a plus.
Work Environment: This position operates in a fast-paced office environment. The individual may be required to occasionally travel for carrier meetings or to attend industry events. The Carrier Sales position described offers a salary range of $18-32 per hour.
