Job Description

Exempt/Full-Time/Hybrid

Reports to: Senior Designer

Summary:

The Assistant Designer will support the design team in creating and developing innovative and trend-driven designs. This role requires a creative and organized individual with a passion for fashion and a strong eye for detail. The Assistant Designer will assist in all stages of the design process, from concept development to final product, ensuring that the brand’s vision, standards and deadlines are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities:

Design:

  • With Designer, create and maintain tech packs including detailed technical sketches and specifications for each design, ensuring accurate communication to the vendors and product development 
  • Assist in fit sessions, taking notes and making updates after fittings. 
  • Organize and manage seasonal approvals: Fabric/Trims, Lab Dips, Print and Graphic Strike Offs. 
  • Organize and manage seasonal design samples, ensuring they are properly catalogued and stored.
  • Ensure T/Packs and VLPs are updated and accurate at key milestone dates. 
  • Ensure the calendar is adhered to and all deadlines are met.
  • Create and maintain physical color cards, Pitch Sheets and other development documents essential to style development and creation. 

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with Sr. Design Director, Senior Designer and design team, Product Developer, Merchandiser, Tech Team and Production to ensure cohesive and integrated collections.
  • Assist in preparing presentations of design concepts and collections for senior management and key stakeholders.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or a related field.
  • 3-4 years of experience in fashion design, preferably within a lifestyle or fashion apparel brand.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of design work, including sketches, technical drawings, and finished products.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and CAD.
  • Understanding of garment construction, fabric properties, and technical specifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong eye for aesthetics and trends.

Working Conditions:

  • This position may require occasional travel to fabric suppliers, manufacturers, and industry events.
  • The role is a hybrid position with a minimum of 3 in-office days/week and may involve work in various environments depending on design and production activities.
